The 1977–78 Gold Cup was the 59th edition of Northern Ireland’s Gold Cup, a football cup competition.
Defending champions: Glentoran.
Champions: Glentoran (7th win, and second in a row).
Final: Glentoran defeated Glenavon 3–1 at Windsor Park, Belfast, on 23 November 1977. Glentoran’s goals were scored by Feeney, Jamison and Dickinson; Glenavon’s goal was scored by Malone. Referee: J. Lorimer.
Group stage: The competition started with two sections, A and B. The winners of each section—Glenavon (Section A) and Glentoran (Section B)—advanced to the final.
Matches and goals: 31 matches were played in total, with 103 goals scored (about 3.32 per match).
