The Prince Mahidol Award is a global annual prize for outstanding achievements in medicine and public health. It is awarded by the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation, founded by the Thai royal family in 1992 to honor Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, considered the father of modern medicine and public health in Thailand. The foundation was started by King Bhumibol Adulyadej on January 1, 1992, originally named the Mahidol Award Foundation and renamed Prince Mahidol Award Foundation on July 28, 1997.
