Bras de la Plaine Bridge
Bras de la Plaine Bridge is a road bridge over the Bras de la Plaine river in Réunion, France. It carries cars, pedestrians and cyclists across a deep gorge. The bridge is about 305 metres long and 10.9 metres wide, with a 6-metre vehicle lane, two 1.35-metre pedestrian paths, and two 1.10-metre cycle paths. It uses a cantilever and truss design, made from concrete and steel. The structure’s longest span is about 280 metres, and the clearance below the bridge is 110 metres. Construction started in 2000 and it opened on 18 December 2002. The Bras de la Plaine Bridge won the 2003 Outstanding Structure Award from the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering for its elegant, slender single-span composite truss design and innovative construction.
