Cindy Stumpo
Cindy Stumpo is an American entrepreneur and residential contractor from Massachusetts. She founded C. Stumpo Development, a private company that builds custom homes in the Boston area.
Her work has been covered by Forbes and other national outlets, and she starred on HGTV in a show called Tough As Nails, which followed her on the job site as a forewoman managing projects and her household as a single mom of two. She also hosts a weekly radio segment on iHeart Radio titled "Cindy Stumpo is Tough As Nails," about building a house and building a life.
Early life and education: She was born Cindy Robin Leonard in Brookline, Massachusetts, and grew up in West Peabody and Newton. She studied General Construction at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and earned her general contractor license on her first try, becoming one of the first women in Massachusetts to be licensed without being grandfathered.
Career: Stumpo started C. Stumpo Development at age 24, initially buying and selling houses and then moving into custom building. She built her first million-dollar home in 1990 and became known as a top residential builder in the Boston area.
Public appearances and awards: She has spoken at TEDx Lowell (2014) and the Massachusetts Conference for Women, among other events, to encourage more women to enter construction. She has received several honors, including Builder of the Year awards and Woman of the Year from Magic 106.7 FM. Her firm was named one of the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts by The Boston Globe in 2014, and she was named Inspirational Woman of the Year by Brookview House.
Personal: She is the mother of Samantha and Chad Stumpo and was previously married to Joe Stumpo.
