List of birds of Colombia
This article summarizes the birds recorded in Colombia. The current list includes 2,037 species, making Colombia one of the most bird-rich countries in the world. The country is especially notable for its very high diversity of tanagers and hummingbirds, among many other groups.
Among the species on the list, 87 are endemic to Colombia (found only there), 138 are vagrants or wanderers, and 1 species has an uncertain origin. There are also 39 unconfirmed records and 56 species that appear on a 1959 list, none of which have been confirmed by the main classification committee since then. In addition, some species listed in other sources (like GBIF) are included here but remain unconfirmed by the main authority.
The core scientific authority used for the list is the South American Classification Committee (SACC). It recognizes 1,913 confirmed Colombian species, with 84 endemics, 4 introduced by humans, 78 rare or accidental, and one endemic species thought to be extinct. The list also notes that the department of San Andrés and Providencia is geographically closer to Nicaragua, so its records are not fully addressed by SACC. A few records from that region and from offshore areas have been added by later publications (in 2015 and 2020), but SACC does not cover records beyond about 200 miles offshore.
In terms of diversity, Colombia has the largest number of several bird groups. For example, the country hosts the most hummingbird species of any nation (well over a hundred), and it also has the greatest number of tanagers. The list follows the taxonomic arrangement and naming used by the SACC, and uses capitalization rules common in English-language bird lists.
