Christian Cameron
Christian G. Cameron (born August 16, 1962) is a Canadian novelist who writes historical and science fiction. He also uses the pen names Gordon Kent (with his father, Kenneth Cameron) and Miles Cameron (his solo pen name).
Early life and education
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up in several American towns. He earned an honors BA in Medieval History from the University of Rochester. Cameron served in the United States Navy as an air intelligence officer and later as a human intelligence officer, leaving the Navy in 2000 as a lieutenant commander.
Career and writing
Cameron moved to Canada in 2002 and married Sarah. His first published work, co-written with his father, appeared in 1998 as Night Trap in the UK and Rules of Engagement in the US. He published his first solo novel, Washington and Caesar, in 2002.
Tyrant series
Cameron is best known for the Tyrant series, a set of historical novels about the time of Alexander the Great. The series includes Tyrant (2008), Storm of Arrows (2009), Funeral Games (2010), King of the Bosporus (2011), Destroyer of Cities (2013), and Force of Kings (2014). He also wrote a stand-alone fictional biography of Alexander called God of War (2012), which ties into Tyrant.
Long War series
His Long War series covers the Persian Wars from the perspective of Arimnestos of Plataea. It starts with Killer of Men (2010), followed by Marathon (2011), Poseidon's Spear (2013), The Great King (2014), Salamis (2015), and The Rage of Ares (2016). The books blend battles with everyday life in ancient Greece.
Chivalry series
The Chivalry series, published starting in 2013, follows Sir William Gold through the 14th and 15th centuries in England, France, Italy, and Greece. It features figures like Geoffrey Chaucer and John Hawkwood and moves through events from the aftereffects of the plague to major battles such as Agincourt. The series began as a trilogy but expanded to five books.
Arcana Imperii and Miles Cameron
As Miles Cameron, he writes Arcana Imperii, a science fiction space opera about a far-future human civilization with faster-than-light travel and large interstellar ships.
Alan Craik series
Cameron also co-created the Alan Craik series of espionage thrillers, about a modern naval officer. The eight books follow his career from early days to retirement, mixing espionage with naval life.
