Coda is a rock en español band from Mexico City. They formed in 1989 and found success in the early 1990s with four albums. After many lineup changes in the late 1990s, they disbanded in 2000 and came back in 2002 with a new lineup.

The band started when Salvador "Chava" Aguilar and Toño Ruíz formed Coda with Jesús "Chucho" Esquivel, Zitto Bremont and Diego Benyure. Their first show was in April 1989 in Mexico. They released an EP in 1990 called Tiempo Perfecto, which didn’t do well, and soon Diego and Zitto left, replaced by David Melchor and Allan Pérez.

Sony Music signed the band in December 1991. Enciéndelo, their first full album, came out in 1993 with songs like "Tócame" and "Eternamente." The video for "Tócame" was a hit on TeleHit. They opened for Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe and played at Mexico’s Palacio de los Deportes. They also won Best Hard Rock Band at the VIII National Survey Awards.

In 1995 they moved to Farnham, England to record Veinte Para Las Doce, produced by Robin Black. The title track’s power ballad "Aún" topped the Mexican charts, and the video for the album’s title song did well on TV. They toured Latin America and the United States, performing at major venues and festivals.

Their 1997 album Nivel 3 included "Luz Roja" and "No Digas No" and led to opening for Scorpions in Mexico. They joined the Universo Musical tour, which visited 91 cities. In 1998 they won Best Hard Rock Band again, but Chava Aguilar left the band that year and Eduardo Contreras took over as singer.

Around 1999–2000 the band faced label changes and internal lineup shifts and eventually disbanded in 2000. In 2002 Aguilar restarted the project with new members, first under the name Retto and later with another lineup. They began recording new material, and Vivo was released in 2006.

Salvador Aguilar died of stomach cancer on August 21, 2025, at the age of 56.
