Main Street People
Main Street People is the thirteenth studio album by the Four Tops, released in September 1973. Recorded at ABC Studios in Los Angeles, it’s an R&B album about 40 minutes long. The project was produced by Steve Barri along with Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. In the group’s discography, it follows Keeper of the Castle (1972) and precedes Meeting of the Minds (1974). Five singles were released from the album: It Won’t Be the First Time (1972), Too Little, Too Late (1972), Are You Man Enough? (May 1973), Main Street People (August 1973), and Sweet Understanding Love (1973). Sweet Understanding Love became the Four Tops’ last Top 40 hit in the United States for eight years. The album did not sell as well as expected; Abdul Fakir noted in 1982 that the material was strong but not given enough promotion. All tracks were written by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, with any exceptions noted in the album credits.
