Chinese replenishment ship Chaohu
Chaohu (890) is a Type 903A replenishment ship of the People's Liberation Army Navy. Built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, she was launched on 7 May 2012 and commissioned on 12 September 2013. The 903A class is an upgraded, large-scale supply ship designed to support fleets at sea; Chaohu has a displacement of about 23,000 tons, is 178.5 meters long, 24.8 meters wide, and draws 8.7 meters. Powered by two diesel engines, she can reach about 20 knots and has a range of 10,000 nautical miles at 14 knots.
Chaohu carries 10,500 tons of fuel oil, 250 tons of fresh water, and 680 tons of cargo and ammunition. She has a crew of around 130 and is armed with four 37 mm guns. The ship features a hangar and a helipad for aviation support.
As part of naval diplomacy and fleet operations, Chaohu, alongside sister ships Yuncheng and Changbai Shan, made a goodwill visit to Rotterdam on 30 January 2015. On 28 April 2017, Chaohu, Changchun and Jingzhou arrived in Davao City, Mindanao. A month later, on 25 May, the trio conducted a naval exercise with the Myanmar Navy—the first time China held such drills with Myanmar. They then visited Karachi on 12 June and Piraeus Port on 23 July.
