Zsóka Gelle
Zsóka Gelle, born October 12, 1967 in Szombathely, Hungary, is a Tibetan studies scholar, translator, writer, filmmaker and guide. She studied history and cultural management before specializing in Tibetan studies, and has taught at universities and Buddhist colleges. She learned spoken Tibetan in Darjeeling and has worked as a lecturer and organizer of lectures and conferences on Buddhism.
Her interests include Tibetan and Himalayan religious practices, rituals, pilgrimage, mountain cultures and sacred places. She focuses on the teaching lineages of the Nyingma school, the gter ma tradition, Hyolmo traditions, beyul and Buddhist eschatology.
From 1999 to 2003 she worked with Mani Lamas in India, collecting stories to spread compassion. She contributed to the "Demons and Protectors" exhibition at a prominent museum and later joined the University of Vienna to study Hyolmo history and culture. After the 2015 Nepal earthquake, she started the Hyolmo Heritage Project to preserve Hyolmo culture and memories. She now works as a freelance translator and independent researcher, writing for museum catalogs and conference proceedings. She is known for the Mani Lama Project and the Hyolmo Heritage Project.
