Sir Edward Gostwick, 2nd Baronet
Sir Edward Gostwick, 2nd Baronet (1588–29 September 1630) was an English nobleman from Bedfordshire. He was the eldest surviving son of Sir William Gostwick, 1st Baronet, and Jane Owen. His father was made the 1st Baronet of Willington in 1611 by King James I.
Edward’s grandfather was John Gostwick and his grandmother Elizabeth Petre, daughter of Sir William Petre, who was Secretary of State to Henry VIII, Edward VI and Mary I. After his grandfather’s death, Elizabeth married Edward Radclyffe, 6th Earl of Sussex.
Edward was knighted on 3 May 1607 at Whitehall and became the 2nd Baronet on 19 September 1615 after his father’s death. He served as High Sheriff of Bedfordshire from 1626 to 1627.
On 2 April 1608 he married Anne Wentworth, daughter of John Wentworth, a member of parliament, and Cicely Unton. They had at least two children: a son, Edward, who became the 3rd Baronet, and a daughter Mary.
Through his son Edward, Sir Edward Gostwick was the grandfather of Sir William Gostwick, 4th Baronet, who was MP for Bedfordshire from 1698 to 1713. Through his daughter Mary, he was the grandfather of Nicholas Spencer (1633–1689) and William Spencer of Cople, who married Lady Catherine Wentworth.
Sir Edward Gostwick died on 29 September 1630, and his baronetcy passed to his son Edward.
