China Reinsurance (Group) Corporation, commonly known as China Re, is one of China’s largest reinsurance groups. It traces its roots to the People's Insurance Company of China, the PRC’s first insurer founded in 1949. China Re was established on 22 August 1996 with joint backing from the Ministry of Finance and Central Huijin Investment Company Limited, and a registered capital of RMB 36,407,611,085. It is a public company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (SEHK: 1508) and is headquartered in Beijing.

China Re offers reinsurance, as well as property and life insurance. It serves clients in China and globally, including governments, corporations, and individuals. As of 31 December 2023, it employed about 55,459 people and is owned by China Central Huijin and the Ministry of Finance.
