Chemnitz Küchwald station
Chemnitz Küchwald station is in the Furth district of Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, on the Neukieritzsch–Chemnitz railway. It mainly serves freight traffic that fuels the nearby Chemnitz Nord co-generation power station, handling coal, lime, mineral oil and empty gypsum cars. The station opened on 2 June 1902 and was a junction for several lines: Wechselburg–Küchwald, Küchwald–Obergrüna, and the line to Hilbersdorf marshalling yard. The Obergrüna line closed in 2004 and the Wechselburg line in 2002.
For passengers, a single platform was finally added on 5 December 2018. The platform is on the right side and serves passenger trains in both directions. The station has one passenger platform, while many tracks are used for freight operations.
Ownership and operations are handled by Deutsche Bahn. Tracks and station services are run by DB Netz and DB Station&Service. Freight trains are operated by DB Cargo and several private companies, including Heavy Haul Power International, Havelländische Eisenbahn, AHG Industry, Mitteldeutsche Eisenbahn and City-Bahn Chemnitz. After freight arrives, cars are sorted and shunted to the Furth power plant by shunters such as DB Class V60, DR Class V60 and DR Class V 23.
The station was known as Küchwald before December 2018.
