San Antón District

San Anton District is one of fifteen districts in Azángaro Province, located in Peru’s Puno region. The capital is San Anton. The district covers 514.84 square kilometers and sits about 3,960 meters above sea level. In 2005, it had a population of 7,128, with a density of about 13.9 people per square kilometer. Most residents are Indigenous Quechua; about 71% learned Quechua in childhood and about 29% started with Spanish. The district includes high mountains such as Allqamarini, around 4,800 meters.
