Giulio Perticari
Giulio Perticari (1779–1822) was an Italian poet and scholar who helped shape the study of language and literature. He was born in Savignano sul Rubicone into a noble Pesaro family and was the eldest son. As a boy, he studied at a college in Fano and moved to Rome in 1801 to study mathematics, law, and literature. He wrote under the pen name Eulinto Seutronio.
In 1812 he married Costanza Monti and became close to her father, the poet Vincenzo Monti. Perticari supported neoclassicism and, in language debates, stood with Monti against purists, arguing that the language of other centuries deserves the same respect as 14th-century Italian.
His notable works include Degli scrittori del Trecento e de' loro imitatori (1818) and Dell'amor patrio di Dante e del suo libro intorno il Volgare Eloquio (1820). In 1819 he founded and contributed to the literary magazine Giornale Arcadico. He died in San Costanzo in 1822 at the age of 42.
