Old Place, Staten Island
Old Place is a small neighborhood in the northwest part of Staten Island, New York. It sits south of Arlington and west of Mariners Harbor and is part of Community Board 1. The area includes a United Artists movie theater on Forest Avenue and a Home Depot across the street. Beyond Forest Avenue there are only a few homes, with most residential units located in the Goethals Homes along Goethals Road North just west of Forest Avenue. There are plans to develop the area with 3- to 4-story buildings that have retail on the ground floor and residences above, with access to nearby wetlands. In 2010, Old Place’s population was roughly 50% White, 5% Black, 39% Hispanic, 3% Asian, and 2% Other. The neighborhood is defined as the part of Census Tract 323 south of the railroad tracks. Public transit is provided by the S40 bus and the rush-hour limited-stop S90 bus.
