Breviraja nigriventralis, the blackbelly skate, is a deep-water skate in the ray family Rajidae. It lives on the western Atlantic Ocean seafloor at depths of about 549–776 meters (1,800–2,550 feet). Males reach up to 40 centimeters in length. Its conservation status is Least Concern (IUCN 3.1). Taxonomy: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Chordata; Class Chondrichthyes; Subclass Elasmobranchii; Order Rajiformes; Family Rajidae; Genus Breviraja; Species B. nigriventralis. Described by McEachran & Matheson in 1985.
