Chandan Kumar Sarkar
Chandan Kumar Sarkar was an Indian politician from Assam with the Indian National Congress. He served as the Minister of Irrigation and Soil Conservation in the Tarun Gogoi government from 2015 to 2016.
He was elected as a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Abhayapuri South for three terms: 1991–1996, 2001–2006, and 2011–2016. His son Pradip Sarkar later became the MLA from Abhayapuri South.
Sarkar studied at Chakla Higher Secondary School. He was married to Swapna Rani Sarkar and they had three children.
He died on 19 November 2018 at the age of 65 after a cardiac arrest in Bongaigaon. He received tributes from several politicians, including Ripun Bora, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who praised his valuable service to the state. In elections, he won in 1991, 2001, and 2011, but lost in 1996, 2006, and narrowly in 2016 to Ananta Kumar Malo.
