Chamber of Deputies of Santa Cruz
The Chamber of Deputies of Santa Cruz Province is the unicameral legislature of Santa Cruz, Argentina. It meets in the provincial capital, Río Gallegos. The chamber has 24 deputies who serve four-year terms; all seats are renewed every four years.
Elections use a mixed system: 10 deputies are elected in a province-wide district by proportional representation using the D’Hondt method, and 14 are elected in single-member districts roughly matching the province’s municipalities. The voting also uses the ley de lemas.
Leadership and structure: The President of the Chamber is the Vice Governor of Santa Cruz, who is elected together with the governor every four years. Since December 10, 2023, the Vice Governor is Fabián Leguizamón (SER Santa Cruz). The First Vice President is Fabiana Barrientos (PSC) and the Second Vice President is Mario Piero Boffi (PSC).
Political groups: The chamber includes a government-aligned group, For Santa Cruz, which holds the majority, and opposition groups such as Union for the Homeland and the Civic Coalition ARI.
The powers of the Chamber are defined by the Santa Cruz Constitution. The last elections were held on August 13, 2023, and the next elections are in 2027. The chamber’s website is camaradelpueblo.gob.ar.
