Beautiful Young Minds is a British documentary that follows the UK team’s selection, training, and competition at the 2006 International Mathematical Olympiad in Slovenia. Directed by Morgan Matthews and produced by Blast! Films, this 90-minute film explores how many of the young mathematicians have autism, which the documentary links to their mathematical abilities. The team wins four silver medals and one bronze. It premiered at the BRITDOC Festival in July 2007 and was broadcast on BBC Two in October 2007, with screenings at the Bath Film Festival. The music is by Sam Hooper and editing by Joby Gee. Beautiful Young Minds inspired the 2014 film X+Y, based on IMO participant Daniel Lightwing.
