Cercyon praetextatus is a species of water scavenger beetle in the family Hydrophilidae. It is an insect (order Coleoptera) found in the Caribbean, Central America, North America, and South America. The species was first described by Say in 1825. Its name is Cercyon praetextatus, and it has also been known as Cercyon testaceum (Blatchley, 1923).
