Cathole Mountain

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Cathole Mountain is a small peak in Meriden, Connecticut, and the lowest peak in the Hanging Hills of the Metacomet Ridge. It rises to 515 feet (157 meters). The rugged southern ledges rise steeply above Meriden, and the mountain is separated from South Mountain by the narrow Cathole Pass, where Connecticut Route 71 runs.

The mountain has two main parts: the southern ledges and a main peak about a mile to the north. The 51-mile Metacomet Trail crosses Cathole Mountain and offers views into Cathole Pass. The cliffs continue south with views over Meriden, but there is no official trail along the entire length. People come here to hike, rock climb, and in winter, snowshoe. Much of the northern half is privately owned.
