Cass County Boys
Cass County Boys was a Western music group active from the mid-1940s to the early 1950s. The group formed in Texas in 1936 when accordionist Fred Martin and guitarist Jerry Scoggins were filling in on Dallas radio station WFAA and started performing together. They soon asked bassist Bert Dodson to join; Dodson had been playing with the Light Crust Doughboys. Martin was from Cass County, Texas, and an announcer began calling them the “Cass County Kids.” They often played on Gene Autry’s Melody Ranch radio show and appeared in many Autry movies and in ten of his TV programs. Scoggins later sang the theme song for The Beverly Hillbillies. In 1996, the Cass County Boys were inducted into the Western Music Association Hall of Fame.
