Carlos Frías
Carlos David Frías, born November 13, 1989, in Nagua, Dominican Republic, is a former professional baseball pitcher. He was a right-hander who played in Major League Baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2014 to 2016. His MLB career record was 6-6 with a 4.50 ERA and 75 strikeouts.
Frías joined the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2007 and began in the Dominican Summer League before moving through the minor leagues, including stints with the Gulf Coast League Dodgers, Arizona League Dodgers, Ogden Raptors, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Great Lakes Loons, and Chattanooga Lookouts. He was a Midwest League All-Star in 2013.
In 2014 he started in the Dodgers’ system and reached the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, where he went 8-4 with a 5.01 ERA in 16 games. He also faced suspensions in July 2014 for a foreign substance on his arm and for involvement in an on-field fight. He made his major league debut on August 4, 2014, against the Angels, pitching two scoreless innings. His first big-league start came on September 3, 2014, with six scoreless innings against the Nationals. He finished 2014 with a 1-1 record in 32.1 innings.
In 2015 he split time between the Dodgers and Albuquerque, going 5-5 with a 4.06 ERA in 13 starts and four relief appearances. A rough outing on May 24 saw him allow 10 runs in four innings. In 2016 he appeared in only one MLB game, pitching four scoreless innings on July 7 against the Padres, and spent much of the year in the minors and on the disabled list.
Frías was traded to the Cleveland Indians in January 2017 and played in their minor league system before electing free agency in November 2017. He signed a new minor league deal with Cleveland in January 2018 but was released in March. He then played in Mexico for Leones de Yucatán in 2018 and Tigres de Quintana Roo in 2019, with limited results and was released in May 2019.
