Hannah Starkey
Hannah Starkey (born 1971) is a British photographer based in London who creates staged images of women in urban settings. In 2019 she received an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society. Her exhibition Hannah Starkey: In Real Life was shown at The Hepworth Wakefield in April 2023. Starkey was born in Belfast and studied photography and film at Edinburgh Napier University (1992–1995) and photography at the Royal College of Art in London (1996–1997). She lives in London. Her recent photographs have a theatrical feel, often placing women in everyday situations—such as with a Coca-Cola in a pub or inside a public lavatory. She describes her work as exploring everyday life and inner-city life from a female perspective. Her photographs are held in public collections.
