Eppie Barney

Eppie L. Barney Jr. (March 20, 1944 – January 21, 2004) was an American football wide receiver who played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he starred at Collinwood High School before attending Iowa State University, where he played from 1963 to 1966. Barney started as a tailback, moved to end/receiver in his junior year, and became one of the best receivers in the country. He was a two-time first-team All-Big Eight (1965–1966) and earned All-American honors in 1966. In 1966 he set Big Eight single-season records with 56 receptions and 782 receiving yards, and his 11-reception, 175-yard game at Arizona is a standout. He finished his ISU career with 97 receptions, a Big Eight record at the time.

Barney was drafted in the third round of the 1967 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns (72nd overall). He played two seasons in Cleveland (1967–1968), totaling 19 receptions for 192 yards and 1 touchdown.

He stood 6 feet tall and weighed 201 pounds. He died in 2004 at age 59.
