Canoeing at the 2015 Pan American Games
Canoeing competitions took place in Ontario, Canada, in two disciplines: sprint and slalom. The sprint events were held at the Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre in Welland from July 11 to 14, and the slalom events were held at the Minden Wild Water Preserve in Minden Hills on July 18 and 19.
There were 18 events in total (11 for men and 7 for women), with 150 competitors from 17 nations. A total Olympic-style quota of 160 canoeists was allowed (120 for sprint and 40 for slalom). Countries could enter up to 15 sprint athletes and up to 6 slalom athletes.
This event marked two firsts: canoe slalom was included in the Pan American Games for the first time, and women competed in canoe races in both disciplines for the first time.
Olympic qualification: The winners of the five slalom events (excluding the C-1 women event, which is not an Olympic event) earned spots for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. If Brazil won any qualifying event, the runner-up qualified instead.
