Alexandre Herchcovitch
Alexandre Herchcovitch (born July 21, 1971) is a Brazilian fashion designer known for avant-garde clothes and bold, eclectic prints, including his iconic skull motif that helped define Brazilian youth in the 1990s. His collections have been shown at fashion weeks in New York, Paris, London and São Paulo.
He was born in São Paulo into a Jewish family with roots from Poland and Romania. He learned to sew from his mother, Regina, around age 10. He began by making clothes his mother wore at parties and selling pieces to friends. As a teen, he balanced studying at an Orthodox Jewish school with the city’s nightlife, an early influence on his work.
His designs are sold worldwide, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Australia. He opened his first Tokyo store in Daikanyama, about 100 square meters, offering men’s, women’s and denim lines, in partnership with H.P. France.
In 2014, he became the first Brazilian fashion designer to receive the Ordem do Mérito Cultural. In 2024, he presented a fashion exhibition at the Jewish Museum of São Paulo.
