C.D. Marte
Club Deportivo Marte, nicknamed the Martians (Marcianos), was a Mexican football club based in Cuernavaca, Morelos. It was founded in 1928 in Mexico City and later moved to Cuernavaca in 1953. Marte played in Mexico’s early top leagues, including the Campeonato de Primera Fuerza/Liga Mayor (1928–1932, 1937–1943) and the Liga Mayor/Primera División de México (1943–1955).
The club’s early years were successful, winning two of its three national titles. Marte also contributed players to the Mexico national team at the 1930 FIFA World Cup in Uruguay. Home matches were held at Estadio Centenario in Cuernavaca, which could hold about 13,500 spectators.
In 1992, Marte was refounded as Marte Morelos and later renamed Potros Marte Pegaso, but the club was dissolved again in 2001. The team’s name honored Mars, the Roman god of war, and its early squad included many Mexican soldiers.
