Wutai County is in the northeast of Shanxi Province, China. It is part of Xinzhou City and borders Hebei Province to the east. The county is named after Mount Wutai, which lies within its borders. The county seat is in Taicheng Town.

- Elevation: average about 1,200 meters; high point 3,058 meters at Mount Wutai; low point about 640 meters at the Qingshui and Hutou rivers
