Air Trans Africa was a small Rhodesian charter airline started by Jack Malloch in 1964 after his previous company failed. It flew cargo and passengers to destinations in Europe and Africa using a small fleet that included a Canadair CL-44 (registered TR-LVO) and DC-8-55F jets (TR-LVK and TR-LQR). The fins were blue at first and later green. The airline had no regular hubs, was headquartered in Salisbury, Rhodesia, and focused on Salisbury and Libreville. It had no IATA code and used the call sign PG. The company ran into financial trouble, and its situation worsened after Southern Rhodesia declared independence in November 1965. One DC-8-55F (TR-LQR) later became PAA40 under CargOman, part of Affretair’s operations.
