Busted Flat Records
Busted Flat Records is an Ontario-based independent record label founded in 2002 by Mark Logan, the owner of Encore Records in Kitchener. It began by recording and releasing a Shannon Lyon live album and has since grown to about 24 artists with more than 65 releases by 2013. The label specializes in roots, folk, blues, Americana, rock and alt-country, and has featured artists such as Matt Andersen, Paul MacLeod, Brock Zeman, Ambre McLean, Shannon Lyon, Lynn Jackson, Jay Semko, the Billie Hollies and others. The name comes from a line in Me and Bobby McGee made famous by Janis Joplin. Originally focused on Southern Ontario, Busted Flat Records now releases music from across Canada and Europe. The label follows a pro-artist business model, with roughly 75% of profits going to artists, 15% to production, and 10% to the label. In 2011, Exclaim! named it one of the country’s most respected roots music outlets. In 2013, it released its first album by an American artist, Have Harmony, Will Travel by Carla Olson, a collection of duets with guests like Barry Goldberg and Juice Newton. Distributors include F>A>B> Distribution and Encore (Kitchener, Canada). Website: bustedflatrecords.com.
