Buschhaus Power Station is a coal-fired power plant near Helmstedt in Lower Saxony, Germany. It runs on lignite and was commissioned in 1985. It is operated by Helmstedter Revier GmbH, a subsidiary of MIBRAG. Until the end of 2013, it was owned by E.ON. The plant's 307-metre chimney is the tallest in Germany. It was modernised in 2002 to run more efficiently. The station has a nameplate capacity of 390 megawatts. Plans for the plant were drawn up in the late 1970s, even though there was little demand for more electricity in West Germany at the time. The project created jobs in construction, operation and coal mining. Buschhaus was shut down in September 2016 and kept as cold reserve until it was decommissioned on 30 September 2020.
