Burlington County Special Services School District
The Burlington County Special Services School District is a special education public district headquartered in Westampton, New Jersey. It provides educational and therapeutic services for elementary and high school students from across Burlington County who have emotional or physical disabilities that require more support than their home districts can offer.
As of the 2023–24 school year, the district operates two schools and serves about 455 students with roughly 101 full‑time teachers, giving a student‑teacher ratio of about 4.5 to 1.
History and campuses
- The district was created in 1972 by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
- It began with 30 students and grew quickly to serve hundreds from many sending districts.
- A Westampton campus was completed in 1982 and began use in 1983.
- In 1990, the district opened a high school for at‑risk students in Lumberton Township.
- A K–8 campus was opened in Willingboro in 1991.
Administration and governance
- The district is led by Superintendent Ashanti Holley and Business Administrator Andrew C. Willmott.
- The Board of Education has seven members plus the county superintendent (serving ex officio). Six members are appointed by the Burlington County Commissioners to three‑year terms, with two seats up for reappointment each year.
