Ahmad Mohd Don
Ahmad bin Mohd Don (1947–17 September 2024) was a Malaysian banker and chartered accountant who served as the fifth Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, the country’s central bank, from 1994 to 1998. He earned an economics degree from the University of Wales in 1969 and was a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He began his career with the government’s Accountant’s Department, then worked as financial controller for several private companies. In 1980 he joined Permodalan Nasional Berhad as deputy general manager and helped launch the National Unit Trust Scheme in 1981. He moved to Malayan Banking Berhad in 1983, eventually becoming group managing director and CEO from 1991 to 1993. After his time at Bank Negara, he served as a director of several companies, including MAA Group Berhad and Zurich Insurance Malaysia. He died on 17 September 2024 at the age of 77.
