Ptilotrigona lurida
Ptilotrigona lurida is a species of eusocial stingless bee in the Apidae family, within the Meliponini tribe. It is found in Brazil, where it is known by several common names: borá-cavalo, abelha-piranha (piranha bee), and corta-cabelos (hair-cutting bee). The species has several older scientific names (synonyms), including Trigona lurida, Trigona heideri, Trigona manni, and Trigona mocsaryi. Its formal name is Ptilotrigona lurida (Smith, 1854).
