Turek County (historical)
Turek County (Polish: powiat turecki) was a district in Congress Poland under the Russian Empire, with its capital in Turek. It was created in 1867 from the eastern part of Kalisz County. The county included the towns of Turek, Dobra, Uniejów and Warta, along with many nearby villages. In 1886 the town of Warta and the village Bartochów were moved to Sieradz County. By 1890 the population was about 98,600, with roughly 87% being ethnic Poles. In 1916, during World War I, the German occupation merged Turek County with Kalisz County and administered from Kalisz. After Poland regained independence in 1918, it became Turek County in the Łódź Voivodeship. In 1938 it was transferred to the Poznań Voivodeship.
