Xalko
Xalko is a 2018 Canadian documentary directed by Sami Mermer and Hind Benchekroun. The film follows Mermer to Xalko, his Kurdish birthplace in Turkey, where women keep Kurdish traditions alive as many men have left as refugees from the Kurdish–Turkish conflict. The 100-minute film is in Kurdish, Turkish and French. It premiered on November 9, 2018 at the Montreal World International Documentary Festival (RIDM). Xalko was produced by Sami Mermer and Hind Benchekroun, with cinematography by Sami Mermer and editing by René Roberge. Production company: Les Films de la tortue; distributed by Les Films du 3 Mars. The film won the Prix Iris for Best Documentary Film at the 22nd Quebec Cinema Awards in 2020, and Mermer received a nominations for Best Cinematography in a Documentary.
