Blaster (Scott Weiland album)
Blaster is the only studio album by American rock band Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. It was released on March 31, 2015, through Softdrive Records. The album was recorded in 2014 and runs 45 minutes and 47 seconds. It was produced by Rick Parker.
In a Rolling Stone interview, Scott Weiland compared the making of Blaster to the early days of Stone Temple Pilots, saying the recording came together smoothly and felt exciting and original because of the band’s vibe.
Guitarist Jeremy Brown died one day before the album’s release, on March 30, 2015. During the tour supporting Blaster, Weiland was found dead on the band’s tour bus on December 3, 2015.
Blaster spawned three singles: “White Lightning” (January 12, 2015), “Way She Moves” (February 10, 2015), and “20th Century Boy” (February 24, 2015).
Reception was mixed. Metacritic gave the album 57/100 based on 7 reviews. Critics noted a familiar Weiland sound with some new touches; some reviews described the music as heavy and loud, while others praised catchy moments on songs like “Way She Moves,” “Youth Quake,” and “Beach Pop.” Rolling Stone’s Kory Grow criticized Weiland’s generally “generic rock voice” on much of the album.
