Athletics at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona featured 43 events—24 for men and 19 for women. The competition ran from July 31 to August 9, 1992. The games drew 1,725 athletes from 156 nations, including 14 world record-holders (8 men and 6 women) and 30 former Olympic champions. Spain was the host nation. In relay events, some athletes who only ran in the heats also received medals.
