Bindian
Bindian is a small village in Kotli District, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. It sits about 810 meters above sea level and is roughly 20 miles from the town of Kotli, in the Bannah Valley near Khuiratta. Most residents are farmers, with others working abroad or in the military. Bindian is known as a center for political and religious activity in Banah Valley and has many educated residents, including teachers, librarians, and service members in the military and air force. Homes are traditionally brick, clay, or mud and usually have two or three rooms for extended families; many families are now building separate homes but stay close as the village grows. The area grows organic wheat and corn. There are two schools: a boys high school called Colonel Qazi Jan High School, and a girls’ school, with children starting school at age 4. The population is 100% Sunni Muslim, and a mosque sits in the middle of the village at a place known as Taup. Bindian observes Pakistan Standard Time (UTC+5).
