Boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Lightweight
Boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympics included the lightweight class, the fifth-lightest weight category. The event took place at the Workers Indoor Arena and involved boxers weighing up to 60 kilograms. The competition used a single-elimination format: if you lost, you were out, and both semifinal losers received bronze medals, so there was no bronze medal match.
Each bout had four rounds of two minutes, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches only scored when the white area on the front of the glove fully connected with the opponent’s head or torso. Five judges scored each bout; a punch counted only if three judges signaled it within one second. The winner was the boxer who scored the most valid punches by the end of the bout. All times were China Standard Time (UTC+8).
