Big Ask (campaign)
The Big Ask was a Friends of the Earth campaign asking for a new climate-change law in the UK and 15 other EU countries. After 130,000 people urged MPs to back such a bill, the UK Government announced the Climate Change Bill in the Queen’s Speech on 15 November 2006. Thom Yorke of Radiohead spoke for the campaign. The proposed law would tackle carbon dioxide emissions and require the UK to cut CO2 by 3% each year. The campaign pushed to strengthen the Bill beyond the Draft Climate Change Bill published with a closing date of 12 June 2007, and asked people to lobby their MPs again. In 2007, the Big Ask started a Web March, inviting people to upload short videos calling for a strong Climate Change Bill.
