Benjamin Holmes (American politician)
Benjamin Holmes (August 8, 1846 – January 14, 1914) was an American politician and a Democrat who served as the 28th mayor of Kansas City, Missouri. He was mayor from 1890 to 1892, the first to serve under a new charter that allowed two-year terms. During his term, Kansas City began planning and building a parkway system designed by George Kessler. Before becoming mayor, Holmes was the treasurer of Jackson County from 1878 to 1885. He also ran the livestock commission firm Lail & Holmes at the Kansas City Livestock Exchange building. Holmes died on January 14, 1914, at age 67 and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery.
