Local Brabant
Local Brabant (Dutch: Lokaal Brabant) is a regionalist party in the Netherlands. It brings together several local groups from North Brabant and aims to give more influence to local communities. Marc Oudenhoven is the lead candidate; John van Gorp is the chairperson. The party sits in the North Brabant Provincial Council and is part of Independent Politics Netherlands.
Local Brabant first ran in 2015 and won one seat. In 2019 it kept a seat with Wil van Pinxteren, a former VVD local councillor. In May 2020 the party joined the provincial executive in a coalition with VVD, CDA and FvD, with Van Pinxteren handling Leisure, Culture and Sports and Governance and Security. Harold van den Broek later succeeded him in the council.
In July 2021 the coalition stopped working with FvD, and Local Brabant moved to opposition. When Van Broek became an alderman in Maashorst in January 2022, Van Pinxteren returned to the provincial council. In 2023 Local Brabant won two seats, with Marc Oudenhoven and Hubert Koevoets serving in the Provincial Council. Davy Jansen became a duo-raadslid in May 2023, and Oudenhoven again took part in executive talks as a deputy.
Local Brabant has no single clear ideology. It argues that major parties are stuck in their own ways, and that growing support for local parties shows people want a stronger local voice in the provincial government.
