Bellaire High School (Ohio)
Bellaire High School is a public high school in Bellaire, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Bellaire Local School District. The school serves grades 9–12 and had about 289 students in the 2023–2024 school year, with a student-teacher ratio of about 12 to 1. The colors are red and black, and the teams are called the Big Reds. They compete in the Buckeye 8 Athletic League and the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference, with Martins Ferry as their rival.
The principal is Derrick McAfee. The school motto is “Once a Big Red, Always a Big Red!” The newspaper is The Tribunal and the yearbook is The Beljuan.
Bellaire High School began in 1876. It started in the First Ward School Building and moved to its own building in 1925 at the current site, which was described as very modern for its time. Bellaire helped found the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference in 1943 and started the Buckeye 8 Conference in 2008.
