2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5
2017 World Series Formula V8 3.5 was a multi-event open-wheel racing championship held mainly in Europe, with some rounds outside Europe. It was the second and final season of the Formula V8 3.5 Series. Cars competed were World Series Formula 3.5 V8s built to the series’ technical rules. The 2017 season was the first as a feeder series to the FIA World Endurance Championship. The season also marked the return of the “World Series” name after promoter RPM Racing requested it; Renault Sport had withdrawn its support and Formula Renault 3.5 had been renamed Formula V8 3.5 for the 2016 season. This was the last season promoted by RPM-MKTG, who had run the series since 1998.
The provisional calendar was announced on 7 November 2016. The Nürburgring round returned, while Hungaroring, Le Castellet, Spielberg and Barcelona were removed. For the first time since 2002, the series included non-European rounds, visiting Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, the Circuit of the Americas in Austin and the Bahrain International Circuit in Bahrain.
Points were awarded to the top 10 finishers in each race. Only the two highest-finishing cars from each team could score points. In race results, pole positions and fastest laps were noted, and a dagger indicated cars that were retired but classified.
