Baillieston Juniors F.C.
Baillieston Juniors Football Club was a Scottish football team from Baillieston, Glasgow. They played in Scottish Junior Football Association competitions from 1919 until 2003 and dissolved in 2005.
The club was formed in 1919 and quickly made an impact. They reached their first Scottish Junior Cup final in 1924, losing to Parkhead after a replay, and soon won back-to-back league titles in the Scottish Junior League. They joined the Intermediate dispute and won the first ever Intermediate league championship in 1927–28, then returned to the SJFA and rejoined the Scottish Junior League in 1929.
After World War II, Baillieston competed in the Central Junior League (1946–2002) and had a notable Cup run in 1965, losing the final to Linlithgow Rose. Their strongest era came in the early 1980s, when they reached three Junior Cup finals in five years. They won the trophy in 1980 after beating Benburb in a second replay. They then lost finals in 1982 to Blantyre Victoria and in 1984 to Bo’ness United.
In 2000 the club sold Station Park to a developer to move to a new stadium in Easterhouse, Glasgow. They groundshared with Glasgow Perthshire and St. Roch’s, then spent a season away from home. The financial strain led to non-playing membership of the SJFA in 2003, and the club effectively dissolved in 2005, though Baillieston Juniors lives on through local youth teams.
Notable former players include Bobby Main, Andrew Anderson and Davie Wilson, who all earned Scotland caps, along with Crawford Baptie and Andy Walker (Walker played in the 1984 Junior Cup final). Other former players went on to different careers, such as politician Tommy Sheridan and boxer Willie Limond. The team's colours were black and white, usually in striped shirts.
