William Maxwell Reed

William Maxwell Reed (January 12, 1871 – September 1962) was an American writer who created illustrated science books for children. He studied at Harvard and later taught astronomy there and at Princeton University. He later worked in the steel industry. His first book, The Earth for Sam, was published in 1929 and began as letters to his nephew. The Earth for Sam stayed popular and was reprinted in 2005. Reed wrote many more children’s information books, many published by Harcourt, Brace.
