Dick Westmoreland
Dick Westmoreland, full name Richard Carl Westmoreland, was born on February 17, 1941, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He played college football at North Carolina A&T and was a defensive back in the American Football League (AFL).
He joined the San Diego Chargers in 1963 and played there through 1965, helping them win the AFL championship in 1963. He then played for the Miami Dolphins from 1966 to 1969.
Over seven seasons, Westmoreland appeared in 81 games and made 22 interceptions. He holds the Dolphins’ single-season record for most interceptions with 10 in 1967, a mark later tied by Xavien Howard.
